Major honours
Founded in 1910, the FITP has staged the Italian International Championships at Rome's Foro Italico since 1930; the Central Court, ringed by marble statues, is clay-season's emblematic stage. For decades history rested on two names: Nicola Pietrangeli won Roland Garros in 1959 and 1960; Adriano Panatta took Roland Garros in 1976 and led Italy's first Davis Cup win on the road in Chile. The 2020s lifted the program to another level. Jannik Sinner became Italy's first ATP world No. 1 in June 2024 and won the Australian Open and US Open that year. Italy defended the Davis Cup in 2023 and 2024 — a 47-year gap since 1976 closed and a first repeat secured — and with Jasmine Paolini leading, took the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup for a fifth title overall. Long investment centered on the Tirrenia national training center is widely credited for the harvest.
