Major honours
Mercedes existed in Formula 1 in two entirely different eras. The first was 1954 and 1955, when the desmodromic-valve W196 gave Juan Manuel Fangio two titles before the team withdrew completely from motorsport after the 1955 Le Mans disaster. The second began when it returned as an engine supplier in 1994 and bought the Brackley-based Brawn GP operation in 2010 to field a factory team again — chassis built in Brackley, power units in Brixworth. Best prepared for the 2014 hybrid rules, it won eight consecutive constructors' titles from 2014 to 2021, a record run, with Lewis Hamilton taking six championships and Nico Rosberg one in that period. Toto Wolff, who holds a stake in the team, has led it since 2013. The 2022 ground-effect rules caught Mercedes out with porpoising, and when Hamilton departed, 18-year-old Kimi Antonelli was placed in the seat for 2025.

The 2021 fight with Red Bull was the fiercest inter-team war in modern F1. Verstappen and Hamilton collided at Silverstone and Monza, the season ended on the last lap in Abu Dhabi, and the race director lost his job in the aftermath.
