A single match tends to change football history in one of two ways: either the result itself shakes a nation's self-image, or the way the match was played rewrites the game that follows it. England's 3-6 defeat to Hungary at Wembley in 1953 is a rare case of doing both at once, and Brazil's 4-1 win in the 1970 Azteca final remains the fullest example of the second.
