The NFL has no promotion or relegation. Thirty-two franchises have kept the same cities since the league's founding, and the salary cap plus draft are designed to pull competitive gaps back toward the middle. Stature still diverges. Some clubs piled up titles across a century; some dominated a single generation; some are remembered forever for one season alone.

The twelve teams below were chosen by weighing career league championships, Super Bowl results, and how far each franchise shifted the sport. Figures are through the 2024–25 season (Super Bowl LIX in February 2025). Career league championships combine pre-1966 NFL titles with Super Bowl wins. Home-stadium capacity is each club's published regular-season seating.
