Major honours
An island nation of roughly 900,000 people that has long served as a talent pipeline for world rugby. The Fiji Rugby Union was founded in 1913, but for decades a steady drain of players to European and Japanese leagues left the 15-a-side national team underperforming relative to its talent. That structure changed in the 2020s. Fijian Drua joined Super Rugby Pacific in 2022, creating a top-tier professional stage at home for the first time, and in August 2023 Fiji beat England 30-22 at Twickenham for its first-ever win there, before beating Australia 22-15 in the pool stage of the France World Cup to reach the quarterfinal. It lost the quarterfinal to England, 24-30, but climbed to a best-ever world ranking of sixth in July 2024. In sevens, Fiji is simply the best in the world, winning the country's first-ever Olympic medal — gold — in Rio in 2016 and defending it in Tokyo in 2020. Its offload-heavy, footwork-driven style remains unmatched by any other team.

Rivalry
The three-way Pacific rivalry with Samoa and Tonga is small in scale but matches any Test for intensity, and since 2023 Fiji has become the team both Wales and Australia most dread drawing.
