A team representing the whole island of Ireland that was synonymous with World Cup upsets even as an Associate nation. At the 2007 World Cup, it beat Pakistan on St. Patrick's Day in Kingston and drew with Zimbabwe to reach the Super 8s; at the 2011 World Cup in Bangalore, Kevin O'Brien scored a century off just 50 balls to chase down England's 327, at the time the fastest century in World Cup history. In 2015 it beat both the West Indies and Zimbabwe. Ireland was promoted to Test status as the eleventh nation alongside Afghanistan in 2017 and played its first Test against Pakistan at Malahide in 2018. Securing a regular Test schedule after promotion has been difficult, however, leaving Ireland with very few matches and a steady drain of players to English county cricket. Its first Test win finally came six years later, in 2024, beating Afghanistan by six wickets in Abu Dhabi.

Rivalry

Matches against England carry special historical weight, symbolized by the 2011 World Cup win and the 2022 T20 World Cup win in Melbourne. With Afghanistan, promoted the same year, Ireland shares a rivalry built on trading each other's first Test wins.
